Kearney County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It was named after Fort Kearny, which in turn was named after Brigade General Stephen W. Kearny. Kearney County is part of the Kearney, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area. In the Nebraska license plate system, Kearney County is represented by the prefix 52 (it had the fifty-second-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). ==Geography== According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.2%) is water.
